Firstly, out of the box the Freecom Classic 500GB HD drive is a good looking, solid external hard drive. Featuring a illuminated 500GB on the front panel (black version) this solid built HD easily matched the more expensive HD drives I've had or used in this class ie: LaCie Porsche, Iomega...
This is a simple plug and play device (single USB 2 interface) which is whisper quiet when on and then just a slight ticker noise when transferring data files. The transfer speed is again quick enough for general use and back-ups.
There is no backup/system software included but there are basic instructions which cover all you need to know on the provided CD (PC and Mac all have basic back-up software that's good enough for any home/small business user) as well as a simple online registration process which will give you all the relevant product information, help and advice on all Freecom products.
For the price, this has to be one of the best HD drives I've bought. Although this particular HD drive is only to be used for simple file transfers and back-up I would on the performance of this drive look to the higher end HD products that Freecom offer in the not to distant future.
If you value your computer contents and want a no fuss simple solution at a great price then you won't be disappointed with this little HD drive.
