Jargon

DPI

Dots per inch; standard of measurement for the resolution of images. The higher the DPI, the higher the resolution.

Flatbed

A type of image scanner that resembles a small photocopier. Place a document face down on the glass scanning bed and the scan-head is moved across it, building up a digital image as it goes.

Mbps

(Millions of bits per second) It is a measure of bandwidth. A unit of information transfer rate. While an ethernet connection can run at 10 Mbps the average household modem still runs at 56.6 kbps (kilobits per second).

Twain

Protocol for exchanging information between applications and devices such as scanners and digital cameras. TWAIN makes it possible for digital cameras and software to communicate with each other on PC.

WCDMA

WCDMA is Wideband CDMA. This is the technology for wideband wireless access supporting 3G cell phone services, and allows very high-speed multimedia services like wireless Internet access and videoconferencing.

Very impressed with this little scanner. Software took a couple of goes to get it installed on Vista Business (32 - bit) but once set up it performs really well. It reads the cards very accurately and you can then easily put the info in Outlook or export to csv file for use in any other programs. Definately worth the money

Very easy to use scanner, excellent idea to have the scanned business card next to the type set scanned text, it helps identify any slight errors in recognition.

We had a few misread cards - i instead of j - B instead R. etc. nothing major, but you will need to check each one for errors.

Handled the languages very well, impressed with the Chinese scanning.

All in all a very handy machine and it will be very useful at exhibitions.
